Hi All,
I know this question has been beaten to death and I read all the topics on the matter, but I wanted to get an opinion from the people that have been sparring for a while and have direct user experience with the gear.
Which gear did you purchase?
-Headgear
-Gloves
-Shin Guards
Which brand and why, if you had the chance to go back, would you make the same choices regarding the gear? Is the more expensive gear worth the money? Does the cheap gear wear out too quickly or not protect enough? How about the headgear visibility issues (hype or a real concern?)? Shifting issues? With chin guard or not?
My situation is that I really really don't want to buy twice... I googled and searched a couple of times and came across some people that would certainly change their gear choice, if they had the chance. I dont have a problem with spending some extra money for equipment that will last and enhance my experience - I just want to get the right gear once and thats it...
Also, does anybody use the School's gear that can give a brief review? What brand is it? Can we use gloves that are Velcro locking, rather than lace (or is it an absolute no, on the Velcro)?
As you can probably tell, I am one of the freshly minted yellow belts, looking for some good advice...
Thanks for the help... |

-Headgear (none)
-Gloves (cleto reyes)
-Shin Guards (everlast)

Shifting issues? i would avoid wearing one in general false sense of security, while giving others the idea that they can hit you harder cause you are protected. With chin guard or not? in the words of pete muldoon you souldnt get too comfortable with them cause you wont be wearing them in the street (or something to that extent)

Also, does anybody use the School's gear that can give a brief review? i was going to buy the school gear but they were not in stock, but i do recommend them as other training partners use them and like them. What brand is it? Can we use gloves that are Velcro locking, rather than lace (or is it an absolute no, on the Velcro)? NEVER USE VELCRO

The gloves must be 14oz or higher.
You may buy what you want, what we carry is what Rhon likes. You should know that Century sells it as their "Gold Line" and charges $30 more for the same gear- we have the same supplier- so don't get it from them.
Gear should be in stock- G&S sporting goods carries it as well- maybe not the shin guards though. |
