Hi, i'm new to Krav Maga, been taking classes for about a month now and loving it. I've gotten feedback from some of the students but wanted to know the best approach towards advancing in ranks.

Should I wait for an instructor to tell me i'm ready to begin workshops? How often are the workshops held? At the end of a workshop, will the instructor tell me i'm ready for testing?

I might be asking prematurely, but i'm just curious when/what the best way is to start thinking about testing for yellow belt.

Thanks everyone

Please also note that I am not asking from the mindset that I am in anyway "deserving" of a belt. I have read through other posts and in no way shape or form am I asking for handouts here. I appreciate the fact that the instructors here will not give a belt to a student that has not mastered the material yet, just because they have paid for or attended x amount of classes.

Last thing i want to do is figure out that I don't know crap while i'm in the middle of an altercation.

Some points to consider when preparing for a workshop:

1) Find a partner that you work well with. Practice with them in and out of class. Figure out together what material you need to see more of and ask instructors before class if they can include that.

2) Attend the workshop with your partner. Don't wait to be asked to attend. Don't pester instructors about when the next one is, but keep your ears open. Don't worry about being perfect the first time, most people need more than 1 workshop to get ready for a test. The first workshop will cover everything and find your holes. If you are perfect on your first workshop, maybe you should have tested already. That said, if you show up and aren't familiar with nearly all of the material you are wasting everyone's time.
